Update on Police open fire in Tin Shui Wai
Police are investigating a Police open fire case in which a 34-year-old Police Constable was injured and a middle-aged man died in Tin Shui Wai this (January 4) morning.
Shortly after 5.10 am, Police officers of Task Force Sub-unit of Tin Shui Wai Division spotted a man acting suspiciously during an anti-burglary operation near a river on Shek Po Road. When the man left the scene by riding a bicycle, Police officers immediately tried to intercept him.
One of the officers had a struggle with the man after a chase, during which the Police officer was reportedly chopped and he subsequently fired two shots.
The Police officer sustained two chop wounds to his head and one chop wound to his hand when the man was shot in the neck and chest.
Both the Police officer and the man were rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital for medical treatment. The man was certified dead at 5.58 am. The identity of the man has yet to be ascertained.
Investigations by Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North are proceeding.
