Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island
Police officers issued a total of 551 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 25 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (December 19) and a total of 167 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 364 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 187 for other traffic offences.
Twenty-nine pedestrians and 320 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 2,748 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to November this year.
Of them, 51.4 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
