Temporary traffic measures in place during ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006
Police will monitor the traffic situation closely to facilitate the smooth running of the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006 in the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) from December 4 to 8 and its Opening Ceremony in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on December 3, a Police spokesman said today (December 1).
"Traffic around the AWE, the HKCEC and MTR Airport Express Link's Hong Kong Station is expected to be heavier during these few days and temporary traffic measures such as road closures or traffic diversions might need to be implemented in these areas when necessary to relieve traffic congestion," the spokesman said.
"We will endeavour to minimise the inconvenience caused to the public and will release the most up-to-date traffic information and advice to the public through the media regularly," he said.
"We appeal to the public to plan their journey well in advance, use public transport as far as possible and try to avoid driving to the relevant districts if not necessary," he added.
Motorists are also advised to drive with care and patience, and follow the directions of the Traffic Police and to take heed of traffic signs at the scene.
