Man jailed for counterfeit banknotes offences
A 43-year-old man was sentenced to two years' imprisonment upon conviction of counterfeit banknotes related offences at the District Court today (October 6).
The court heard that officers of Police Commercial Crime Bureau arrested the man outside a store on Bute Street, Mongkok during an operation on July 3 this year. A total of one piece of counterfeit $500 banknote, five pieces of counterfeit $100 banknotes, six pieces of counterfeit $50 banknotes and two pieces of counterfeit $20 banknotes were seized.
Further investigations revealed that the man had purchased some consumer goods with some of the counterfeit banknotes involving $120 from hawkers and a storekeeper Mongkok area earlier on the same afternoon.
The man was subsequently charged with four counts of passing counterfeit notes and one count of custody of counterfeiting notes. He pleaded guilty to the charges and the sentence was handed down today.
