Four jailed for offences relating to false instrument
Three men and a woman aged between 30 and 65, each convicted with offences relating to false instruments were sentenced to 30 to 33 months' imprisonment at the District Court today (September 11).
The court heard that on August 11, 2005, officers of Police Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) received a report that the four defendants attempted to assist in the realization of a quantity of US Bonds with a very high face value.
CCB offices took over the case and a controlled-buy operation was mounted in a guesthouse on Jordan Road, Yau Ma Tei in the evening of August 11, 2005, leading to the arrest of the four defendants and the seizure of 250 pieces of forged US Treasury Bonds each with a face value of US $500 million.
A subsequent search of a guesthouse in Pilkem Street, Yau Ma Tei led to a further seizure of 246 pieces of forged US Treasury Bonds with a face value of US$500 million.
The four defendants were jointly charged with one count of conspiracy to use a false instrument. Among them, the 65-year-old man was additionally charged with one count of possessing a false instrument on August 12, 2005.
They were convicted of all charges and the sentence was handed down today (September 11).
