Appeal for information on fatal traffic accident in Tsing Yi

Police today (August 21) appealed to members of the public for information on a traffic accident in which a 40-year-old man died in Tsing Yi today.

At about 8.35am on August 21, three coaches, a light goods vehicle (LGV) and a bus were travelling along the Cheung Tsing Tunnel heading to Kowloon. The three coaches and the LGV slowed down due to the traffic condition in the tunnel while the bus behind reportedly failed to brake and collided the LGV from behind. The LGV was pushed forward and resulted in a chain collision with the other three coaches in the front.

After the impact, the 40-year-old bus driver sustained serious injuries and was sent to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was certified dead at 10.25am. The other twenty-five persons including 13 men and 12 women, aged between 11 and 73, were injured during the accident and were respectively sent to the Princess Margaret Hospital, Yan Chai Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre for treatment.

Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South are underway.
