Joint operation seized 14 kilograms of "Ice" (with photo)
The Narcotics Bureau of the Hong Kong Police (NB) and the Japan National Police Agency (NPA) mounted a joint operation resulting in the arrest of six Hong Kong residents and the seizure of 14 kilograms (kgs) of "Ice" in Japan yesterday (August 16).
Since July 2006, officers from NB have been closely monitoring a trans-national drug trafficking syndicate which employed body-packed couriers for smuggling "Ice" to Japan.
On August 16, NB alerted NPA after the officers saw three men and three women boarding a flight to Tokyo, Japan. All of them were intercepted on arrival at Tokyo Narita Airport on the same day. Four packets of "Ice" were found body-packed on each of them. A total of 14 kgs of "Ice" which could fetch a retail value of HK$20.5 million if disposed in Japan market were seized.
The six persons who are Hong Kong residents and aged between 23 and 28 were arrested for trafficking of dangerous drug following the seizure of the "Ice".
NB will continue its proactive intelligence exchange with overseas law enforcement agencies in combating transational drug trafficking activities.
