Junior Police Call members commended for their contributions

A total of 40 Junior Police Call (JPC) members, as well as 40 JPC School Clubs and District Councils were commended today (March 11) for their outstanding contributions in organising and participating in community services, publicising fight crime messages and promoting the JPC Scheme.

During the Presentation Ceremony of the Hongkong Bank Foundation JPC Awards 2005, they received commendation trophies and cash awards from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lee Ming-kwai; the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Tang King-shing; and Head of Service and Sales Personal Financial Services, Asia Pacific of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), Ms Teresa Au.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch, Mrs Choi Wong Fung-yee, praised the participants for their potential, team spirit and social responsibility demonstrated during the selection process. She also expressed her gratitude to HSBC for supporting the Awards Scheme.

Ms Teresa Au also commended JPC members for their effort and enthusiasm. She said, "HSBC actively supports education projects that help students achieve their full potential. We are proud to have funded the JPC Awards Scheme since 1986, and encourage students to care about the community, establish positive values and prepare themselves for future challenges by participating in JPC activities."

The Awards Scheme, organised by the Hong Kong Police with sponsorship from the Hongkong Bank Foundation for the past 20 years, has four categories: Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader, Best JPC School Club and Best JPC District Council.

A selection panel comprising representatives from the Police, HSBC and non-governmental organisations was formed to select champions from over 200 JPC members and groups nominated.

Miss Wong Wai-sze from Sham Shui Po was voted the Best JPC Member and Miss Law Mei-yee from Tsuen Wan the Best JPC Leader. They were each presented with a commendation trophy and a $8,000 cash award.

The Queen Elizabeth School was selected as the Best JPC School Club and received a $13,000 cash award; while the Best JPC District Council award went to Tuen Mun JPC District Council, which was honoured with a $21,000 cash award.

The Police have been organising this annual Awards Scheme since 1977 to give due recognition to dedicated members of JPC, which is one of the largest youth organisations in Hong Kong with about 140 000 members.
