Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island
Police officers issued a total of 460 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 35 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7 pm today (February 14) and a total of 160 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 295 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 165 for other traffic offences.
Fifty-two pedestrians and 364 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 249 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January this year.
Of them, 44.7 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
