Man jailed for drug trafficking

A 37-year-old man was sentenced to 14 years' imprisonment after he was found guilty of trafficking in a dangerous drug at Court of First Instance today (February 2).

The court heard that at about 7.30pm on August 21, 2005, officers of Narcotics Bureau (NB) intercepted the 37-year-old man in a building on Kwong Wa Street in Mong Kok.

A subsequent search in a premises in the building resulted in the seizure of 26 plastics bags containing a total of 21.31 kg of Ketamine in the unit.

He was subsequently charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs. The sentence was meted out at the Court of First Instance today.

Police reiterate that drug trafficking is a serious offence and offenders may be liable to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Police will spare no efforts in cracking down such illegal activities in future.
