The New Territories South Road Safety Section and the Sha Tin District Traffic Team held a cycling safety education and enforcement operation from mid-March to early this month.

The operation, at popular cycling paths including Shing Mun riverside, the Ma On Shan coast, Sai Sha Road and Ma On Shan Road, was carried out because of an increase in the number of cycling accidents in Sha Tin, including a fatal accident during the Lunar New Year.

Common incorrect behaviour included carrying passengers, cycling on pavement and ignoring traffic signs.

NTS T Road Safety Officer, Ms Leung Yim-fong, said that Police had stepped up cycling education in talks given to kindergartens, primary and secondary schools.

She added that the Force would continue to conduct similar cycling education and enforcement operations in the district until the situation improved.

Cyclists should obey traffic signs
