Yau Tsim hand-in-hand with youths

Furthering the development of Hong Kong's youngsters, the Youth Hand-in-Hand Project was launched July 7.

Organised by the Kowloon West Regional Crime Prevention Office, Yau Tsim District and the Chinese YMCA, the launch took place at the YMCA Kowloon Centre. The 10-month scheme aims to encourage youngsters to develop a positive attitude towards life, adopt a healthy lifestyle and explore their potential.

The participants, referred to the scheme by YT District's Child Protection Unit, receive counselling and training, take YMCA courses and attend Police anti-crime seminars.

They also visit Police stations, prisons, courts and elderly centres. It is hoped the scheme will help them stay away from crime and give a better understanding of life.

Officiating guests at the ceremony were YT District Commander John Bicknell, Assistant District Commander (Crime) Tse Keung, Crime Kowloon West Headquarters Superintendent (Administration and Support) Cheung Kwai-kee, Acting Tsim Sha Tsui Divisional Commander Edwina Lau Chi-wai and Yau Ma Tei Divisional Commander Vickie Leung Yuk-hung.

Chinese YMCA General Secretary Lawrence Yick and Deputy Secretary Karl Lau, along with Yau Tsim District Council and Fight Crime Committee members, were also present.
