The Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU) launched the Safe Community Pledge campaign in collaboration with the hotel sector on October 9 to strengthen the security awareness of hotel staff. ICTU will provide hotel staff with training and seminars and has produced a tailor-made pamphlet to further enhance their ability to identify suspicious persons, objects and activities, as well as encouraging them to report such information in a timely manner.

Acting Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Yip Wan-lung and Chairman of the Hong Kong Hotels Association (HKHA) Mr Wong Chak-fung officiated at the kick-off ceremony. The campaign has gained full support from HKHA, with active participation of nearly 140 hotels. Mr Wong said the industry would endeavour to help promote various CT measures and publicity events so that hotel staff could become gatekeepers of community safety and safeguard personal safety of tourists and their own.

Since the launch of the Safe Community Pledge in 2022, ICTU has reached out to the chemical industry sector, the logistics and transportation sector etc. to promote the campaign. Through collaboration with different industry sectors, ICTU will continue raising the security awareness in the whole society.
