HKSOS team attends forum in Guangzhou
The second Drone Emergency Rescue Force Building and Development Forum hosted by the Guangzhou Drone Emergency Rescue Center was held in Guangzhou on September 11. The theme of this year was “Tech for Good, Guarding Safety”. The forum attracted attendance of search and rescue (SAR) experts from various countries including Brazil, Japan and South Korea.
The development team of HKSOS, the Force’s emergency rescue mobile app, was invited to attend the forum. As a keynote speaker, Senior Superintendent (Digital Policing Services Bureau) of Digital Services Division Mohammed Swalikh introduced the Force’s smart rescue ecosystem with HKSOS being the crux and shared the experience and effectiveness of SAR operations of the patented technology of Signal Radar and its Rescue Drone. He highlighted that over 100 000 downloads of HKSOS had been recorded since its launch in January, with 33 successful SAR cases assisting 90 individuals.
The HKSOS development team was the mere representative from Hong Kong invited to set up a booth at the exhibition hall. Many participating units were highly interested in the patented technology of Signal Radar in detecting SOS signals from a long distance in the absence of mobile network coverage.
Promoting mountain safety with Oxfam Trailwalker
Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong Ms Kalina Tsang and her team paid a courtesy visit to Police Headquarters on September 16 to thank Commissioner Siu Chak-yee for the Force’s support to Oxfam Trailwalker over the years. She said that this year marked the 40th anniversary of Oxfam Trailwalker and Oxfam Hong Kong looked forward to working together with the Force in promoting HKSOS.
Oxfam Trailwalker will be held between November 15 and 17, with over 4 000 participants expected to take part. To raise awareness of mountain safety among the public, the logo of HKSOS and the slogan “every journey counts” will be printed on every event t-shirt. HKSOS promotion banners will also be displayed at various check points, and HKSOS will be promoted in the race information booklet. Force members and volunteers have formed teams to join the races, during which HKSOS will be promoted. Moreover, the 40km and 100km routes of Trailwalker have been uploaded to HKSOS to guide walkers in their training and races. Officers were invited to participate in the two briefings held on August 10 and 24 respectively, during which an exhibition booth was set up to promote HKSOS.
