Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner (National Security) Kan Kai-yan, Director of Crime and Security Yip Wan-lung and Director of the Police College (the College) Chan Yee-lai, attended the 2024 Conference of Global Public Security Cooperation Forum (Lianyungang) in Lianyungang, Jiangsu held between September 8 and 10. With the theme of “Win-win Cooperation under Significant Changes: Building a Global Community of Common Public Security”, the conference gathered over 2 100 participants, including senior officials, renowned experts and scholars from 122 countries, regions and international organisations, to discuss major global public security issues.
13 sub-forums on various public security themes were held. Director of the College was invited to attend the International Forum on Police Education Cooperation hosted by the People’s Public Security University of China. She delivered a speech on the theme of “Cultivation of Police talents and International Cooperation in the Digital Age”, emphasising the importance of nurturing tech-savvy workforce through three major strategies, namely “encourage openness and innovation”, “be adept users of technology” and “enjoy using technology”. She also stressed that collaborative efforts with global partners were essential for addressing transnational crime and ensuring public safety. In addition, Deputy Director (2) of the College Choi Tung-choi also attended the sub-forum for forensic science hosted by the Criminal Investigation Police University of China where he exchanged views with experts and scholars on the theme of “Age of AI+: Innovation and Development of Forensic Science”. Meanwhile, Director of the College attended bilateral meetings with representatives of different police training institutes to strengthen strategic partnership with our Mainland and overseas counterparts.
The forum, which is under the guidance of the Ministry of Public Security since 2015 and undertaken by the Jiangsu Provincial Public Security Bureau and Lianyungang Municipal Government, endeavours to establish a global collaborative platform with “Cooperation Security for Common Prosperity” as its core value. The forum also aligns with the international trend and development to build up a platform for broader communication and collaboration among the participants.
