To promote collaboration among public and private stakeholders in stepping up efforts to combat fraud, the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) under Commercial Crime Bureau is launching the Anti-Scam Month from mid-August to late September for raising public awareness of the latest scams.

Publicity vehicles

ADCC arranged the ice cream van with the theme of “Escape from Scams” to meet the public across the territory from August 16 to 23. People who completed simple anti-scam tasks were awarded ice cream. Sponsored by the Chinese Banking Association of Hong Kong, ADCC deployed the ice cream van to visit university campuses between August 25 and 29 to enhance university students’ awareness of scams. Moreover, ADCC also arranged large promotional truck to visit various campuses for publicising anti-scam messages.

Multimedia publicity

ADCC has released a new series of anti-scam publicity videos comprising three episodes with “Escape from Scams” as the main theme. The videos are being broadcast at large shopping malls, entrances to tunnels and the Force’s online social media platforms. In addition, ADCC has updated its online learning package for students of tertiary institutions. Those who complete the learning kit may receive certificates issued by ADCC as rewards. A new mobile game “Scam Fighter Boost” has been launched as well. Members of the public can start the games by registering free of charge at www.guardthecity.com with their mobile phone numbers.

Survival guide

As September and October are high-risk months during which Mainland students in Hong Kong are prone to “Impersonate Officials” scams, the Force, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the banking sector, has introduced various anti-scam measures for Mainland students in Hong Kong since August. These measures include frontline bank staff distributing and introducing the survival guide when these students open bank accounts. ADCC also disseminates the guide to citizens in various districts and Mainland students in Hong Kong during the Anti-Scam Month to raise their awareness of frauds.
