Inter-Region Focus Group Meeting
To enhance the Force’s overall anti-burglary response across different Regions, subject officers responsible for anti-rural burglary work came together at Tseung Kwan O Police Station for a focus group meeting on June 20 to stem the rise in rural burglaries across the territory. The attending Formations comprised Peak Sub-division, Rural Patrol Unit of Hong Kong Island, Sai Kung Division, Tseung Kwan O District, Shatin Division, Tin Sum Division, Tin Shui Wai Division, Yuen Long Division and Quick Reaction Force of New Territories North.
The officers exchanged on the modus operandi of burglary suspects and syndicates, and discussed manpower-saving initiatives to ensure effective response to rural burglaries. They also pooled together good practices for preventing rural burglary, such as making use of the Government Flying Service helicopters and adopting technology for search and arrest. Public engagement measures against rural burglary and experience in detecting burglary cases successfully were also shared. An online platform was established on the day to facilitate different Formations sharing real-time intelligence and anti-burglary strategies.
TMDIST
To curb rural burglaries and foster connection between the Force and the community, Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) has launched the new community engagement and crime prevention initiative, Project Rurallink. District Commander of TMDIST Ng Kwok-cheung and Chairman of Tuen Mun Rural Committee Mr Lau Ip-keung officiated at the kick-off ceremony on June 13. 39 village representatives were appointed as Village Watch Ambassadors to provide crime information of the villages to the Force through various channels to assist the Force in making targeted deployments. Security companies set up booths at the event to introduce their latest products and information to the Village Watch Ambassadors.
TMDIST will enhance collaboration with the Village Watch Ambassadors, village leaders and District Services and Community Care Teams. Apart from conducting hazard inspections in the villages to identify security inadequacies and offering crime prevention suggestions and solutions to plug security loopholes, TMDIST will also conduct data analysis to facilitate flexible deployment of resources for anti-burglary patrols.
