Six local scholars have been appointed under the Honorary Research Fellowship Scheme for two years. Director of Police College (the College) Chan Yee-lai presented the certificates of appointment to them on February 6 and set the directions for future research collaboration. Professor Yip Siu-fai and Professor Karen Laidler of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) have been re-appointed as Honorary Senior Research Fellows; Dr Wong Wai-ching of HKU, Dr Au Wing-tung and Dr Zhong Hua, both from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, have also been re-appointed as Honorary Research Fellows; Dr So Chun-lung of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has been newly appointed as Honorary Research Fellow.
Over the past eight years, the re-appointed local scholars have completed studies on various policing areas, including emotional fitness training, enhancing psychological wellness in police officers, aborted suicide attempt study, prevention of suicide, changes of cross-border drug use and prevention strategies, the occupational safety and health risk in recruit training, investment scams and crime prevention education, etc. Their findings are presented in 12 academic reports. They have also served as keynote speakers for 11 sessions of the College’s knowledge management activities under the Research Enhanced Applied Policing Series to share their evidence-based research findings.
The Honorary Research Fellowship Scheme has been launched by the College since 2015 to leverage the research expertise of the Honorary Research Fellows in expanding the Force’s research capability and developing good policing practices. The College will continue to strengthen its collaboration with local scholars and renowned academic institutions. Colleagues are also encouraged to conduct research on Force-related topics in their private study.
