Airport District (ATPDIST) officially took over Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port (HZMB HK Port) on February 18 to strengthen the policing management of the two major transportation hubs.
Since the commissioning of HZMB HK Port in 2018, it had been under the purview of Lantau District (LTDIST). With the policing responsibilities for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and HZMB HK Port in border control and aviation security growing similar, and the gradual integration of passenger and cargo traffic of both sides, HZMB HK Port has been assigned to APTDIST so that LTDIST can focus on its policing work of the Tung Chung New Town Extension development.
The restructuring has taken into account the long-term development, professional attributes and resource allocation efficiency of APTDIST and LTDIST. The restructuring can also strengthen the Force’s operational capability in border security and responsiveness to emergencies, as well as allowing greater flexibility in manpower deployment. To facilitate the officers’ clear understanding of the restructuring, Regional Commander of New Territories South Mak Chin-ho conducted open forums with personnel from APTDIST and LTDIST on January 8 and 16 to enhance internal communication. In addition, APTDIST has organised a series of practical work exchange and induction courses for officers to understand the daily operation, security measures and emergency response mechanisms of HKIA and HZMB HK port to ensure smooth operation and maintain professional service quality.
