In the fourth quarter of 2023, the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre under Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) launched a series of “Guard The City” anti-scam publicity activities, including Guard The City AR mobile game, as well as the Anti-scam Charity Run 2023 and West Kowloon CHILL RUN Winter Market held at the West Kowloon Cultural District Art Park on December 17, 2023.
Commissioner Siu Chak-yee was the officiating guest of the Charity Run. Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Chow Yat-ming, Director of Crime and Security Yip Wan-lung, Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Chung Wing-man, Chief Superintendent of CCB Yau Kin-hung and Deputy Director of Macao Judiciary Police Mr Sou Sio-keong also attended the event. In his speech, the Commissioner said that it took more than the efforts of the Force to combat deception. It was necessary for all sectors of the community to unite together for enhancing the comprehensive effect in anti-deception. He called on the public to pay more attention to the Force’s anti-scam publicity and make good use of the 24-hour Anti-scam Helpline 18222 and Scameter+, and actively share anti-scam information to people around.
The Charity Run, which was the Force’s first charity event themed with anti-scam, attracted more than 1 750 participants. Each participant received a runner’s pack and some anti-scam leaflets. All proceeds were donated to two local charities, namely Food Angel and Operation Breakthrough. The Charity Run received generous support from different formations and organisations. Kowloon West won the Most Supportive Police Major Formation Award while the Kai Shing Management Services Limited Company, a subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties, won the Most Supportive Organisation Award. In addition to the champion, first and second runners-up prizes for the male and female group’s 4km event, the Charity Run also created new awards for the Best Anti-scam Theme Costume, Best Christmas Theme Costume and Most Creative Costume. The Commissioner also presented the Outstanding Partner trophies to 26 representatives from the public and private organisations attending the event to pay tributes to their contribution in assisting the Force in preventing and combating scam in the past year.
The Winter Market held on the same day was themed with the Force’s mascots “Chai Chai” and “The Little Grape”. The programmes included musician Mr Harry Ng and artiste Mr Albert Au singing the anti-deception song There’s no free lunch, the drama and dance performed by the Grape Ambassadors of Tai Po District and more than 70 anti-deception booth games, attracting several thousand citizens.
