The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Hong Kong Island (RCPO HKI) held the launching ceremony of Project SAFE on October 27, 2023, with the attendance of about 60 invited representatives of various community sectors and organisations. Through Project SAFE and subsidising stores in the Region to install CCTV systems, RCPO HKI hoped to mobilise various stakeholders in the Region for boosting the exchange of intelligence. Project SAFE was piloted in Central and Western Districts in June 2023 and was introduced to entire HKI in August. Almost 100 organisations have joined the project.

Regional Commander of HKI (RC HKI) Kwok Ka-chuen presented certificates of appreciation to representatives of participating organisations to express gratitude to these stakeholders for their support. He said in his speech that Project SAFE required participation of various stakeholders and business sectors, as everyone, no matter from a big shopping mall or a small local business, played a proactive role in maintaining law and order in the city. He also encouraged shops in all Districts to make good use of technology and upgrade their security equipment. Station Sergeant Leung Wai-on of Central District also shared with the guests details of a robbery case which was detected after CCTV footage of a participating store of Project SAFE was reviewed.
