Marine (MAR) conducted a counter-terrorism (CT) exercise codenamed QUICKBLADE on Cheung Chau on December 14, 2023. It was the first large-scale CT exercise organised by MAR on an offshore island. Over 140 officers from the Fire Services Department, Marine Port District, Small Boat Division, Marine South Division, Cheung Chau Division and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau were mobilised. More than 40 teachers and students of Kwok Man School on Cheung Chau also took part in the exercise.

The exercise simulated that two terrorists with weapons invaded and attacked a school. They also set up an explosive device to threaten the public. Officers attended the scene promptly, subdued all the terrorists, evacuated members of the public safely and orderly, destructed the explosive device to resolve the crisis successfully. The officers also shared two useful CT tips on campus, reminding the teachers and students that they should enhance their awareness on suspicious objects and bear in mind of “Run, Hide, Report” in the event of a terrorist incident.
