To promote cycling safety, Support Wing has launched the Trial Scheme on Police Bicycle Uniform and Equipment since December 18, 2023 for projecting a novel and community-friendly image of frontline officers and enhancing community engagement. Having made reference to various law enforcement agencies across the globe and taken into account the local climate, Support Wing has designed the new bicycle uniform made of more elastic and breathable materials to increase officers’ comfort level under hot and humid weather. The shorts and trainer shoes also fit better for operational need. Furthermore, folding bicycles are introduced under the trial scheme for greater deployment flexibility, and the word “POLICE” on the bicycle makes it more easily recognisable by the public.
In addition, Support Wing has arranged professional bicycle training for 20 officers respectively from Road Safety Offices of New Territories North and New Territories South to enhance their safety in performing duty effectively. Under the three-month trial scheme, officers will dress in the new bicycle uniform and equipment on cycling tracks in their respective Regions whilst performing cycling safety publicity campaign duties.
