The Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit of Crime Support Group held the opening ceremony of Let’s T.A.L.K. - Child Protection Campaign 2023 at the Police Officers’ Club on September 23. It is the third year for the Force to launch the campaign, under which a series of activities are held in collaboration with the Commission on Children, the Social Welfare Department, the Community Chest and other working partners to enhance public awareness of child protection.

Acting Commissioner Chow Yat-ming, Director of Public Prosecutions Ms Yang Mei-kei, Director of Social Welfare Ms Lee Pui-sze, Chairman of the Dress Casual Day Organising Committee of the Community Chest Mr Wong Wai-yue, artiste Ms Chan Man-chi, Acting Director of Crime and Security Chung Wing-man and Chief Superintendent (Crime Support) Yu Hoi-kwan officiated at the ceremony. In his speech, the Acting Commissioner reiterated that child protection was a sophisticated task requiring constant and concerted efforts of the community. He thanked the stakeholders from different sectors for their continuous support that allowed progressive expansion of the network for child protection. In the past three years, the Force not only organised large-scaled educational and publicity programmes to promote child protection, it also worked closely with the relevant stakeholders to provide professional training to the officers and enhance the overall capabilities of the Force in handling child abuse incidents in face of the proposed legislation on mandated reporting regime for child abuse.

A key initiative of the campaign, the Virtual Run Challenge, encouraged caregivers and children to participate in the healthy running exercise and try to set a world record. In collaboration with the Community Chest, the Force organised the Casual Wear Day with the theme of child protection. A social media post design competition was also held to raise funds for member organisations of the Community Chest that provide child protection and welfare services. Moreover, in addition to the Metaverse Exhibition and Multi-disciplinary Seminar, a new series of animations and comics covering diverse child protection topics will be launched.
