In response to World Alzheimer’s Day, the Regional Missing Person Unit of Kowloon East (RMPU KE) held an event on September 21 to provide free cognitive assessment and consultation service. Occupational therapists from Renascence Integrated Rehabilitation Centre were arranged to provide on-site cognitive assessments for individuals in need at shopping malls in Yau Tong and Wong Tai Sin for identifying potential dementia sufferers at an early stage and offering appropriate advice and support to dementia sufferers and their families.
Moreover, officers conducted blood pressure measurements for the elderly and followed up cases with potential wandering risks. Home visits were arranged and positioning devices were distributed to alleviate pressure on caregivers and ensure safety of the elderly. Members of Senior Police Call of Kwun Tong District and Wong Tai Sin District attended the event as ambassadors of Project PINPOINT to share with families in need the measures to prevent going missing. The event attracted over a hundred elderly participants, among whom 13 potential dementia sufferers at risk of going missing were successfully identified and provided with relevant follow-up services. The participants expressed gratitude for the support services offered under Project PINPOINT, which not only helped them identify potential sufferers but also provided valuable advice on prevention of going missing that enabled them to care for their family members in a more effective and relieved manner.
