The Research and Development Division of Police Tactical Unit Headquarters organised the unprecedented Force Unmanned Systems Exercise at Chi Ma Wan Correctional Institution on September 21. The exercise aimed to introduce the latest development of unmanned system and accessories, and the application of 3D mapping system in police operations to enhance the officers’ professional knowledge about unmanned systems and related operation skills. Police Tactical Units, Innovation and Solution Lab of Information Systems Wing, Small Boat Division, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, Regional Response Team and Technical Support Unit of Correctional Services Department participated in the exercise.
The exercise was divided into two sessions. The first session was to introduce various 3D mapping systems and to demonstrate their application, while the second session was to demonstrate the application of various unmanned systems in maritime situation, land and airborne scenarios for search and rescue as well as other police operations, in which feasibility tests were conducted to assess their capabilities in different scenarios. Over 20 representatives from the Digitalisation and Technology Division of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and young entrepreneurs from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and other private companies demonstrated the latest 3D mapping systems and unmanned systems.
In his closing speech, Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Lui Kam-ho said that the application of unmanned system in police operations became more popular and the development of unmanned system in police operations adopted Strategic Direction – Embracing the Use of Technology for Policing in the Digital Age. He also appreciated the officers for their participation in the exercise.
