Commissioner Siu Chak-yee led a 26-member Hong Kong delegation to attend the 18th Symposium on Police Studies of the Strait cum Hong Kong and Macao in Suzhou on August 28. The delegates included Deputy Director (Enforcement, Systems and Management) of Immigration Department (ImmD) Tai Chi-yuen, three ImmD members, directorate officers of the Force, selected thesis authors, as well as representatives of the Police College and police staff associations.
The symposium this year was the first face-to-face exchange meeting conducted after the epidemic. Under the theme “Police Modernisation and Co-operation”, some 200 police officers, experts and academics from the Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao came together for in-depth discussion on significant issues such as how technological advancement could enhance policing efficacy.
Seven plenary sessions were held for the 35 authors from the four places to share their professional analyses and insights on the latest developments and trends in the relevant domains. Out of the seven theses submitted by the Force for the Symposium Journal, the authors of three of them, namely, Senior Inspector (SIP) Fung Tsz-yui, SIP Ng Wing-man and SIP Leung Chi-king, were invited to share in the plenary sessions their research results, which focused on areas of online platforms, artificial intelligence, big data analysis and counter terrorism. Director of Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) Chan Yee-lai chaired the third plenary session whilst Deputy Director (2) of HKPC Choi Tung-tsoi was the commentator in the second plenary session.
The symposium achieved fruitful results as it facilitated mutual understanding and sharing of knowledge and experience on various topics. Through the symposium, the officers pooled their wisdom, strengthened collaboration and enhanced the policing capabilities of the four places.
