The 2023 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) was held in Winnipeg, Canada between July 28 and August 6. Nearly 280 elite athletes from the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) competed in various events. It was the first major international sports event that HKPF has participated since 2019. Competing against the world’s top teams, HKPF athletes did their best and demonstrated the sportsmanship of perseverance and never-giving up. With a total of 238 medals amassed comprising 89 gold, 80 silver and 69 bronze ones, HKPF athletes showed an excellent result to their counterparts worldwide with their outstanding professional image, telling the good story of Hong Kong through their performance.
The athletes returned to Hong Kong on August 8. Government officials and representatives of youth groups attended the welcome ceremony at the Hong Kong International Airport. The Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Chan Kwok-ki congratulated the athletes on their triumphant return, and praised the officers for their dedication in the games and their elite professionalism outside the competitions.
WPFG is a biannual international sports event for officers of disciplined services from all over the world to compete with their skills in different games. This year’s WPFG attracted the participation of about 12 000 disciplined service personnel from more than 50 regions.
