Cheung Chau Jiao Festival, which had been suspended for three years because of the pandemic, was resumed in late May. Cheung Chau Division (CCDIV) provided proactive support between May 25 and 27 to ensure that the activities could proceed smoothly. The number of officers engaged was as many as 600. Since January of this year, CCDIV had conducted numerous meetings and site visits with the Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee (CCBFC), relevant government departments and other stakeholders to evaluate the risks of various activities and to formulate relevant risk and crowd management measures.
CCDIV implemented various crowd-control measures to ensure public order and respond promptly to incidents. For the first time, the organisers adopted CCDIV’s suggestion and created floats with anti-deception themes. Scam-prevention leaflets and crime-prevention messages were disseminated to the public and tourists during the parade.
Regional Commander (RC) of Marine (MAR) David Jordan and Deputy RC of MAR Ip Che-man came to the venue personally to show their support and encouragement to the officers. CCBFC even invited CCDIV officers to participate in packaging buns. Divisional Commander of CCDIV Chan Shuk-kwan subsequently distributed buns and offered blessings to the public. After the event, CCBFC Chairman Mr Yung Chi-ming sent a letter of appreciation to the Force to thank the officers for their commitment to the hard task.
