The Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) held the launching ceremony of website SafeCity.HK cum appointment of SafeCity Ambassadors at the Police Headquarters on May 16 to launch the brand new website SafeCity.HK and appoint 47 SafeCity Ambassadors, who would proactively engage with different sectors of society for building a safe and harmonious city together.
Commissioner Siu Chak-yee points out in his speech that promoting community participation in crime prevention is one of the prominent strategic directions of the Force, and if members of the public report any suspicious incidents promptly, Hong Kong can be protected more effectively. 47 representatives from the education, transport, security, business, professional and public service sectors, as well as youth-related associations, were appointed SafeCity Ambassadors to assist the Force in disseminating crime-preventing messages.
SafeCity.HK is a website that covers five domains, namely Personal Safety, Security of Premises, Educational Materials, Tips for Tourists and Quick Links. During the preparation, CPB took the initiative to collect views from different sectors of society for providing a one-stop platform that facilitates the public to obtain the latest crime prevention tips more easily and promptly.
In view of the increasing number of fraudulent cases, CPB set up the Crime Alerts Network (CAN) in February 2022. Under this network, crime alerts are disseminated timely through instant messaging app to working partners, including school principals, parents, social workers and private organisations of various scales, who are encouraged to share the information with their relatives and colleagues. Since its inception, over two million citizens have been receiving weekly crime alerts broadcast by the Force. To strengthen the cohesion of CAN, CPB has established the SafeCity Ambassador Project and appointed 47 SafeCity Ambassadors.
The officiating guests of the ceremony included Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Yuen Yuk-kin, Director of Crime and Security Yip Wan-lung, Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Chung Wing-man and Chief Superintendent (Crime Support) Yu Hoi-kwan. Chairpersons of District Fight Crime Committees, representatives of school heads associations and parent-teacher associations from 18 districts, as well as artistes Mr Bill Chan, Mr Benjamin Yuen and Ms Sisley Choi also attended the ceremony as honourable guests.
