In preparation for the upcoming typhoon season, the Force conducted an inter-departmental typhoon response exercise with the Civil Aid Service (CAS) at CAS Yuen Tun Training Camp in Tsuen Wan on May 18 and 19. A total of 100 personnel from Kowloon West (KW) and CAS took part in the exercise.

The exercise simulated a strong typhoon striking Hong Kong, resulting in multiple tree collapse incidents that blocked major roads, causing injuries to citizens and incidents where individuals were stranded on mountains due to severe weather conditions. The Chainsaw Cadre co-established by the Emergency Unit and Traffic of KW, Small Unmanned Aircraft Cadre of KW, together with the Emergency Rescue Company of CAS, were deployed to handle the tree collapse incidents for restoring traffic flow, facilitating access of emergency vehicles and expediting the search and rescue operations for missing individuals in mountainous areas. The exercise aimed to strengthen the Force’s concerted searching and rescuing capabilities with other departments in adverse environments.
