Kowloon East (KE)’s Project PINPOINT, which makes use of technology to prevent the elderly and dementia sufferers from going missing, won the Age-friendly Collaborator Award, one of the six special awards in this year’s Jockey Club Age-friendly City Partnership Scheme 2022. Project PINPOINT excelled among some 300 entries and was recognised for introducing the age-friendly initiatives promoted with multifarious resources to benefit the elderly.

Regional Commander of KE Dr Law Yuet-wing received the award on behalf of KE at the award presentation ceremony held on May 11. He stated that Project PINPOINT not only enabled caregivers to keep track of the elderly’s real-time location via smartphones and Bluetooth positioning devices, but also successfully extended the concept to the collaborating social welfare organisations, which now also purchase Bluetooth positioning devices on their own for clients, thereby achieving the project’s goal of “teaching a man to fish instead of giving him a fish”.

This award is a clear affirmation of the Force’s effort in utilising technology to reduce the number of dementia sufferers going missing. In response to the challenges brought about by an ageing population, KE will keep promoting Project PINPOINT and striving with all community stakeholders to establish an age-friendly city that cares for its citizens.
