The Complaints Against Police Office (CAPO) has been endeavouring for members of Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC) to understand different facets of the Force’s policing duties and the challenges involved. Director of Management Services Lam Hiu-tong accompanied IPCC Chairman Ms Wong Pui-sze and eight members to visit Marine Regional Headquarters on May 11. The visitors were introduced the core responsibilities of Marine Police, as well as the policies and measures for maintaining law and order at sea, which include effective deployment of Marine Police fleets, the use of technology for enhancing the efficiency of maritime policing and securing the professionalism of marine officers through specialised training, for overcoming the challenges of maritime policing.

Officers showcased the Ship Simulator training facility to the IPCC and conducted a drill of simulated boat interception at Joss House Bay assisted by the unmanned aircraft system. The delegation also took a ride on the Multi-Mission Interceptor to experience the difficulties encountered by frontline marine officers in law enforcement at sea.

Ms Wong thanked the Force for arranging the visit, which enabled IPCC members to experience the uniqueness and professionalism of the Marine Police in an interactive manner. CAPO would keep collaborating with frontline units to organise visits for IPCC members to understand police duties more comprehensively and genuinely.
