To strengthen the officers’ understanding of information technology and digital policing, Kowloon East Regional Technology Crime Unit (KE RTCU) organised two training courses for frontline officers in April to enhance their capability in combating technology crimes. More than 140 crime officers from KE joined the courses.
The first course held in early April was delivered by the head of operation of a Singapore cyber security company, who is experienced in forensic examination and response to cyber security incidents. The crime investigation officers of KE were briefed on header analysis of phishing emails and how to trace and identify the origin and legitimacy of phishing emails through forensics.
In the course held in late April, representatives from the Department of Justice and the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) were invited to brief frontline officers and share with them the legislations and cases relevant to money laundering. The speakers discussed with the participants the evidence required for prosecution, with a view to improving the officers’ capability in investigating money laundering. Senior Inspectors of CCB Lam Chun-hong and Tse Cheuk-yui introduced the Bank Document Digitisation System and Bank Statement Conversion and Analysis System to support frontline officers in using the Force’s systems effectively to improve the analytical efficiency in processing bank documents.
