New Territories South Region (NTS) held its Project L-Homecoming awards presentation ceremony cum sharing session on February 24. Representatives from six property management companies in NTS and 50 frontline security personnel were invited to attend the event. Regional Commander of NTS Mak Chin-ho thanked the property management and security service sectors for their support. Six security personnel and one customer service officer were commended for having assisted the Force in locating missing elders with dementia. After the ceremony, Regional Missing Person Unit of NTS conducted a sharing session with the property management sector to brief the frontline security personnel on successful stories of locating missing persons and relevant techniques.
Operations Bureau of NTS has been promoting Project L-Homecoming proactively to provide demented elders and their carers with means to prevent such elders from getting lost. The scope of the Project is being expanded to encompass more vulnerable groups, including people with mental disability or mental illness, so as to strengthen the protective network in the society and reduce the risk of their going missing.
Moreover, NTS and the property management and security service sectors have been collaborating closely. All Districts in NTS have established large-scale instant communication platforms with property management and security companies in their respective Districts for timely sharing of crime trends and information. Their collaboration has led to a number of successful arrests relating to illegal debt collection activities. On the anti-deception front, the security sector often provides the Force with information and disseminates anti-deception publicity messages to residents to prevent them from falling prey to scams.
