The second term of the Central Advisory Board (CAB) of the Animal Watchers Programme (AWP) was established in February 2023 with its first meeting convened on February 15. At the meeting, the Chairperson of CAB and Assistant Commissioner (Information Systems) Kwan Chui-ching welcomed the new CAB members and thanked the first term members for their support and strategic advice and suggestions over the last two years. The secretariat summed up AWP’s achievements in 2021 and 2022 and found that despite restrictions of the pandemic, over 73 000 participants physically took part in the activities of the first term from institutions including kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, tertiary institutions and special schools, with nearly 6.2 million online viewings.
The secretariat also presented the project plan for 2023-2025 under the theme “Synergy with Great”. The project plan will be launched continuously in three strategies, namely enhancing student ambassadors’ knowledge on animals caring to support Animal Care Corners at schools; promoting the message of animals caring among various social strata and establishing bonding with animal lovers; and utilising the powers from AWP Watchers and AWP School Ambassadors to enhance the public’s awareness of loving animals for the shared responsibility of fighting animal cruelty.
