The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) continued to collaborate with the telecommunications and other sectors to conduct the cybersecurity campaign named All-round CyberDefence in March for promoting digital literacy and awareness of fraud prevention among the general public through mobile phones, televisions and cinemas.
City-wide Anti-Scam SMS Alerts
CSTCB and Anti-Deception Coordination Centre, in collaboration with major local mobile telecommunications operators, broadcast anti-scam SMS alerts to mobile phone users in Hong Kong from March 6 to 14, urging them to beware of various scams. The mobile version of the scam and pitfall search engine, Scameter+ and the “18222 Anti-Scam Helpline” were also promoted.
Infotainment Programme – All-round CyberDefence
CSTCB and TVB have jointly produced a series of ten episodes to explore various issues on information security and technology crime. The latest techniques of different cyber pitfalls are unveiled with real examples and viewed from the perspectives of experts. The contents of All-round CyberDefence cover the cyber security campaign and various scams including romance scams, online employment fraud and naked chat blackmail. The programme was broadcast on channels 83 and 85 of TVB from March 13 to 24. The public can revisit the contents on CyberDefenders’ social media channels.
Cyber Heist Movie Screenings
CSTCB co-hosted four movie screening sessions of Cyber Heist, a cybercrime-themed film, with a mobile communications company and an information security company respectively on March 9 and 12 across the territory. Nearly 700 people from the cyber security industry, youths and their families attended the sessions. In his opening address, Acting Chief Superintendent of CSTCB Lam Cheuk-ho said that the number of cybercrimes was on the rise, and the cyber threats presented in the film would likely happen in the future and affect our daily life and business operation. CSTCB hopes that the public will understand the importance of cyber security through the event.
