The 66th session of the Commission on Narcotics Drugs of the United Nations (UN) was held in Vienna, Austria between March 13 and 17. Led by the Vice Commissioner of National Narcotics Control Commission Mr Tsang Wai-hung, Chief Superintendent of Narcotics Bureau (NB) Ng Wing-sze and Chief Inspector of NB Lo Ka-chun attended the meeting, in conjunction with other delegates from the Office of National Narcotics Control Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hong Kong and Macao, who formed the 22-member delegation. More than 2 000 delegates from over 120 member states, international organisations and non-governmental organisations attended the meeting.


In the meeting, Mr Tsang Wai-hung stated that China would strengthen anti-drugs collaborations with the UN, various international organisations and other countries. He reiterated the importance for all countries to cooperate and share the responsibility to address and counter the world drug problem. The meeting also discussed on the strategic management of combatting drugs, implementation of the International Drug Control Treaties, as well as the measures to curb global demand and supply of drugs. The member states adopted the inclusion of seven controlled substances into the Treaties. NB officers also attended a number of side events and exchanged views with other law enforcement officers on strategy on combatting drugs, rehabilitation policies and drug prevention education.
