Officers of Rural Patrol Team of Tin Shui Wai Division spotted a Sri Lankan male acting suspiciously while they were patrolling at Lau Fau Shan Pier on February 16 noon. Coming across the police officers, the man immediately discarded his rucksack and fled. He plunged into the sea to escape from the pursuit but was found drowning due to exhaustion at about 30 metres from the shore. Acting Station Sergeant Man Cho-hung immediately picked up a life buoy in the vicinity and leapt into the sea with it. Eventually, he succeeded in saving the man. Subsequent investigation revealed that the man fled as he was in possession of 2 000 sticks of illicit cigarettes.
