To prepare for the upcoming international rugby tournament, Happy Valley Division (HVDIV) conducted a joint-departmental major incident exercise codenamed GIANTPEAK jointly with the Fire Services Department, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, and Civil Aid Service at the Hong Kong Stadium on March 9. The exercise aimed to strengthen the interoperability and coordination amongst the Force and government departments in handling major incidents.
The exercise simulated a large-scale fire incident that led to multiple injuries and a series of incidents. The Force and other government departments responded immediately. After analysis, communication and coordination, the evacuation mechanism was activated immediately while the emergency broadcasting system informed people at the scene to leave in an orderly manner. A Forward Control Point and triage were set up to coordinate the rescue.
Participating units included HVDIV, Emergency Unit of Hong Kong Island (HKI), Police Tackle Unit Z company, Traffic HKI, as well as members of Project ACHIEVE, the Police Mentorship Programme, Senior Police Call members and volunteers from the Wan Chai community. Representatives of Hong Kong Rugby Union also attended as observers.
