Since its inception in January 1973, OffBeat has been published with more than 1 200 issues, spanning half a century to witness every important moment of the Force. To celebrate this important milestone of OffBeat, the 50th anniversary of its founding, the production team of the special edition of OffBeat and the Editorial Committee publish the OffBeat 50th Anniversary Special Edition, a publication of great significance, on January 18, 2023 to tell the history, development and reform of OffBeat, as well as interesting anecdotes, precious photos and interview. The commemorative special edition is published bilingually in traditional Chinese and English, with the electronic version uploaded to the Force’s website.
To strengthen interaction with readers, a series of activities were especially held, including competitions on essays, photography, masthead designs in Chinese and English respectively, as well as the “My Most Favourite OffBeat Front Page Story” election. Readers’ opinions on different areas of OffBeat were also been garnered through online questionnaires for meeting the readers’ needs and striving for excellence. Colleagues responded enthusiastically to the activities by making nearly 500 submissions in the first four competitions. The election attracted more than 2 000 votes, and the 1157th issue received the highest number of votes.
