Chief Inspector Mo Siu-hei and Senior Inspector Chan Ka-hei of Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU) of New Territories North (NTN) held sharing sessions in NTN, Yuen Long District and Tuen Mun District on November 24, November 28 and December 15 in 2022 respectively to enhance the knowledge of frontline uniform officers and crime investigation officers about relevant laws, crime investigations, judicial procedures and inter-departmental cooperation. Relevant cases were discussed and experience was shared during the sessions. Through sharing the cases in which child abuse was handled, the speakers instilled in the participating officers the basic knowledge and correct attitudes to help them apply correct skills and procedures in handling similar cases in the future.


TWDIST


Tsuen Wan District (TWDIST) and CAIU of New Territories South held a seminar on “How to handle child abuse cases” for educators from primary and secondary schools in the district at Tsuen Wan Police Station on December 14, 2022. It attracted nearly 40 participants, including principals, teachers and social workers. During the seminar, Acting District Commander of TWDIST Tang Kwok-hung stated that care for children required collaboration among all social sectors. He also appealed to the participants that they should help abused children by identifying and intervening in the cases at an early stage. The officer-in-charge of CAIU NTS Kwok Sze-wai explained in detail how child abuse cases should be handled, as well as the legislation and reporting mechanism concerned. She also exchanged views and shared experience with the teachers and social workers. Through the seminar, the participants gained a better understanding of the legislation regarding child abuse cases and the mechanism for handling such cases, with their ability in early identification and handling of suspected child abuse cases enhanced.
