Crime Wing initiated the pilot project, Crimes of Hi-tech Elements Revamp and Enhancement (Project COHERE), in January 2022 with the establishment of Regional Technology Crime Unit (RTCU) and District Technology Crime Squads (DTCS) in New Territories South. Given the successful improvement in tackling technology crimes and capacity building, Crime Wing extended the pilot scheme to Kowloon East (KE) in November 2022 with a view to maximising the synergy effect and optimising resources coordination in tackling the upsurge in technology crimes.
Regional Commander of KE Dr Law Yuet-wing, and the Chief Superintendent of the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau Cheng Lai-ki, officiated at the establishment of RTCU and DTCS in KE and presented appointment letters to members of Project COHERE. The newly established units will specialise in handling technology crimes at Regional and District levels as well as supporting other frontline crime units in KE. CSTCB will render full support for KE to launch Project COHERE, and provide high-end equipment, professional training and cyber intelligence analysis.
To apply appropriate technology for policing in the digital age and tackling technology crime efficiently, the Project will be extended to other land Regions in due course.
