The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) hosted the Cyber Security Expo 2022 (Expo) at the Hong Kong Science Park on September 17 and 18. With technology application and cyber security as its theme, the Expo provided a series of educating and inspiring activities to promote understanding and awareness of cyber security among the public. More than 3 600 students, teachers, parents and members of the technology sector attended the Expo.
Commissioner Siu Chak-yee noted in his opening speech that the pandemic in recent years had accelerated the digitalisation process of the society with both convenience and pitfalls. In the first half of 2022, the Force already recorded about 10 600 cases of technology crimes, accounting for one-third of the overall crimes at a loss amounting to $1.5 billion. Hence, the Force is committed to boosting the public digital literacy, enhancing netizens’ rational thinking to evaluate the information on the Internet, and building a clean and secure cyberspace.
The cyber-security themed Expo was the first of its kind organised by the Force with support from 61 government departments, educational groups and technology companies. It consisted of 31 exhibition booths on cyber security and interactive technology such as 5G robots, drone racing and VR experience, and a series of cyber security seminars and STEM workshops. Two competitions, namely Cyber Security Innovation Challenge and Cyber Security Robotics Competition, were also held at the Expo. Over 150 secondary school students competed for awards with their innovative solutions and technical designs on technology products and robots.
CSTCB launches a series of educational programmes this year under the theme of “iDreamStation” to enhance the youth’s digital literacy. To this end, three story books in drawing designed especially for primary school students have been published to guide them how to handle cyber bullying and identify traps in social media, as well as enhancing their cyber security knowledge on Internet of Things. The search engine “Scameter” has been launched since late September for the public to identify scamming emails, websites, social media accounts and financial accounts etc., on CSTCB’s “CyberDefender”, a one-stop online information platform. By the end of this year, CSTCB will also host the first “Cyber Attack and Defense Elite Training – Youth Series” for young elites from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, aiming to boost their knowledge in cyber security through competition.
