Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and representatives of Narcotics Bureau attended the Abide by the Law Legal Forum on September 24. The forum was organised by the Law Society of Hong Kong (LSHK) at the Moot Court of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), attended by over 300 students from the HKU, international schools and secondary schools, to discuss on the topic “Drug Traps”.
In his speech, the Commissioner pointed out that many young people were arrested for severe drug offences. He was very much worried by the situation and hoped that young people would stay alert and say “no” to drugs firmly. The speakers, including a Sociology professor from Hong Kong Shue Yan University, representatives of LSHK, an officer of Narcotics Bureau and a social worker, shared their views on drug-related crimes, trends and cases from various perspectives so that the youngsters would stay alert and avoid falling into drug traps.
“The forum allowed me to understand the harms of drugs from the perspectives of law and sociology. I was shocked to realise how drug trafficking had ruined the prospect of a teenager after viewing for the first time an episode of a 15-year-old inmate of drug trafficking,” said Ivan, a student attending the forum. In the coming months, Narcotics Bureau will cooperate with LSHK to launch a series of anti-drug campaigns to promote the value of abiding by the law among young people.
