Commissioner Siu Chak-yee visited the District Investigation Team (DIT) 8 of Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) and expressed his appreciation for the officers’ professionalism in handling cases.
On February 12, officers of DIT 8 of KWTDIST received a case in which a female student alleged that she had been indecently assaulted by her stepfather. Upon thorough investigation, the officers revealed that the girl had been instructed by a male to fabricate an accusation against her stepfather. The male was found to have worked at the secondary school in which the girl was studying. After asking the school for further information, the officers found that the man had committed a series of offences. They later applied a Care or Protection Order on the girl and arrested the male, which helped the stepfather get out of the allegation and the girl resume relationship with her family. The girl’s mother later wrote a thank-you letter to appreciate the officers’ professionalism.
The Commissioner pointed out that as frontline staff, officers of DIT could directly affect the Force’s image among the public with their attitude in handling cases. What the officers had done in this incident, which not only boosted the public’s confidence in the Force but also helped a family, was worth commendation indeed.
