To keep the mentees of the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) abreast of how the Force is combatting the ever-changing crime and embracing digital policing, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB), the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) and the Financial Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (FIIB) organised an Inter-institutional Experience Day titled “The Battles against Evolving Future Crime” on July 30, attracting participation of more than 100 mentors, mentees and officers.
Head Mentor of PMP,Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chan Man-tak gave a brief introduction to multi-disciplinary policing, digital policing and future policing, and encouraged students to seek opportunities getting prepared for their career in the Force. Senior Superintendent of CSTCB Lam Cheuk-ho shared his view about facing challenges from future crimes and his experience in criminal investigation. He also led the mentees to explore the potential threats that lie beneath the aura of technological development and how the Force tackled the related crime. Officers from CSTCB, CCB and FIIB, as well as Superintendent Cheung Ting-fung, who has been seconded to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon of France, also gave their sharing.
The mentees then visited the facilities of the CSTCB and the CCB, where officers from the CSTCB explained the basic principles and procedures of digital forensics and demonstrated how to collect evidence from seized mobile phones and computers.They also revealed how criminal syndicates operated in cases of naked chat blackmail.CCB officers explained the operation of the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre and how they engaged the community for crime prevention.The mentees responded enthusiastically. The event has enriched their knowledge about the Crime Bureaux and equipped them for applying to join the Force in the future.
