The Force and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 6. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Prof Sun Dong and the Chairman of HKSTP Dr Sunny Chai attended the ceremony to witness the ceremony. The Hong Kong Police Force is the first Government department that has signed a MoU with HKSTP. Both parties will jointly explore appropriate technological solution for the Force to enhance its services and drive the “New Culture of Digital Policing”.
The Force will collaborate with HKSTP on the application of innovative solutions over the next three years across five areas, namely Natural Language Processing, Geographic Information Systems, Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping, Augmented Reality, and Search and Rescue Operations-related technology. Tech ventures liaised via HKSTP will develop new tailor-made solutions for the Force, and jointly test the effectiveness of applications in real-life operating environments. Both parties hope that this collaboration framework can drive more adoption of I&T application and improve the Force’s service quality at the same time.
The Commissioner noted in the opening speech that the Force, being the largest department of the Hong Kong Government, had all along been supportive of the Government’s initiative to build Hong Kong as an international I&T hub. To drive I&T development, the Force not only promotes a culture that encourages innovation and nurtures I&T talent, but also cooperates with various industries to create a new I&T ecosystem for achieving a win-win situation.
In the opening remarks of Prof Sun, he thanked the commitments of and efforts made by the Force and HKSTP in promoting I&T development. He said he looked forward to seeing more collaboration between government departments and the I&T sector to further promote the smart city and I&T development in Hong Kong.
