Marine Region (MAR) and Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps (HKSCC) have jointly launched the “Marine Guru” programme to nurture youngsters into law-abiding citizens contributing to society. The training programme debuted in Marine South Division on July 23. It aims to provide maritime training for members of HKSCC to enhance their nautical knowledge, safety awareness and interest in the maritime industry. The one-year training course is modelled on the syllabus of the Marine Police Efficiency Certificate and the Marine Department’s Pleasure Vessel Operator Grade 2 Certificate. It is estimated that 80 cadets under the programme will be taught nautical knowledge in the first year. Acting Regional Commander of MAR Lau King-lun encouraged the cadets on the day that they should seize the opportunity to acquire the nautical knowledge and skills, and prepare themselves for development in the professional maritime sector. The cadets thought the programme was practical in the sense that it helped them advance their individual seamanship standards and plan for their future career.

Project LEGACY held a leadership training camp in conjunction with HKSCC for the first time at JPC@Pat Heung on July 24. Nearly 130 teachers and students from secondary schools in Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) and members of HKSCC participated in the event. Divisional Commander of Marine Harbour Division Kwan Wai-kwan officiated at the opening ceremony and encouraged the trainees to develop their personal potential and further contribute to the society.
