Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) has recently completed the renovation of its District Operations Room (DOR). Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, accompanied by Regional Commander of Kowloon West Rupert Dover and District Commander of YTDIST Yeung Man-pun, officiated at the commissioning ceremony and toured the DOR on August 2.
With the renovated DOR, newly installed hardware and improved workflow, YTDIST hopes to maximise the officers’ operational efficiency and capabilities. With the assistance of Planning and Development Branch and Information Systems Wing, YTDIST finished the renovation works in six months.
A new video wall which can support up to 19 video inputs for displaying operational information has been added to the DOR. Six standalone video displays have also been installed to augment the effectiveness of the centrally controlled display system for operators to switch image sources and alter the display mode of the video wall rapidly. Furthermore, three workstations are in place for video monitoring, communications, command and control. The newly added interactive digital multi-touch board allows officers to update deployment quickly. At a flick of the switch, the clear glass of the smart switchable glass panel for partitioning the adjacent conference room will turn opaque for senior commanders to draw up operation plans in privacy while the DOR can function as usual.
The new DOR has been proved very capable and reliable during the trial run in the Security Operation for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. YTDIST will hold a series of internal training to ensure that the officers are familiar with the latest functions and technology of the DOR.
